OONI MESSAGE TO YORUBA PEOPLE

Grammy winning Nigerian superstar, Wizkid announced that a video for his song, 'Essence,' which features fellow Sony Music act, Tems, will drop on April 9, 2021. On February 7, 2021, news broke that Nigerian superstar, Wizkid and Tems were working on a video for their collaboration, 'Essence.' A few weeks ago, it was reported that the song found a place on the UK Afrobeats Charts. The song is a fan favourite from Wizkid's Made In Lagos . EBUKA QUERIES DON JAZZY ABOUT A COLLABORATION

Legendary Nigerian music producer and MAVIN boss, Don Jazzy chatted with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on the BlackBoxInterview via Bounce Radio. During the conversation, Ebuka queried Jazzy about a potential collaboration between him and former business partner, D'Banj. Jazzy replied that he found it hard to produce music for a long time because he was scared. He said that, " [D'Banj and I] have done so much classics that whatever we put out now has to be the sh*t. It got to a point where... because of the accolades that I got from Mo'Hits, I used to criticize everything. Even [Bounce] that is out now... If not because Rema is persistent, I'm sure I would have said no. I still dey produce... I like making music, I can't stop."

FRENCH TYCOON AND HIS WIFE ATTACKED BY BURGLARS

French tycoon Bernard Tapie and his wife have been brutally attacked during a night-time burglary of their home. The former French minister, 78, was once the owner of Adidas and is a controversial figure who has faced a string of legal scandals. On Sunday, he and his wife, Dominique, 70, were sleeping when four men broke into their house in Combs-la-Ville near Paris at around 12.30am local time. The men beat them both up before tying them up with electrical chords and fleeing the scene with stolen goods. Following the ordeal, Mrs Tapie reportedly managed to free herself and sought help from her neighbour before calling the police. Tapie was hit over the head with a club while he was sat in a chair but refused to be taken to hospital, his grandson Randolphe Tapie said. My grandfather refused to be taken away. THOUSANDS DISPLACE BY FLASH FLOODS AND LANDSLIDES

At least 76 people have been killed and thousands displaced by flash floods and landslides following a tropical cyclone in Indonesia and East Timor. Tropical Cyclone Seroja brought torrential train to a cluster of islands, with 55 people dead and 40 missing in Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province, disaster agency BNPB said. In East Timor, which shares the Timor island with Indonesia, 21 people were killed, the majority in the capital Dili. Elsewhere, broken dams have led to homes being submerged. Several bridges have collapsed across the region, and trees have been toppled, blocking some roads. At least one ship sank in the storm. It is feared that the cyclone could intensify over the next 24 hours, although it is now moving away from Indonesia, bringing with it additional rainfall.

The Red Devils keep their hopes of finishing in the top-four alive, as they defeated the Seagulls to move 14 points behind the league leaders Manchester City. After the win yesterday, the Red Devils' manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that his team might be without Anthony Martial for the remainder of the season. He said this during a chat with MUTV after the game. BUHARI CONDEMNS ATTACKS ON OWEERI CUSTODIAL CENTRE

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) custodial centre was attacked by gunmen in Imo State. President Muhammadu Buhari has described the attacks on the Owerri Custodial Centre and Police Command Headquarters in Imo State as an act of terrorism. He condemned the incidents which he said were insurgent attacks on the facilities in the Imo State capital.  It was reported that a total of 1,844 inmates were released during the early-morning attacks on the custodial centre and police headquarters. The President praised the initial response by the security guards and security forces for preventing greater loss of life and the destruction of public property, his spokesman, Garba Shehu, said in a statement hours after the attacks. According to him, President Buhari has directed the security and intelligence agencies in the state and in the South East to fully mobilise and go after the assailants whom he described as terrorists, apprehend them, and get them punished...

WAEC RELEASES DATE FOR WASSCE RESULT

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a release date for the result of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private candidates 2021-First Series. WAEC said private candidates who sat for the WASSCE examination would see their results on Tuesday. The examination body disclosed this in a tweet on its official Twitter handle, on Monday night. “Breaking: Results of candidates that sat for the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2021-First Series will be released tomorrow. Details loading,” WAEC tweeted. WAEC had in March cancelled the First Series Literature-in-English (2&1,3) examination of the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates

The Governor of Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola, has condoled former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon Najeem Salaam, over the death of his wife, Mrs Adebimpe Aduke Salaam. The Governor’s condolence message was contained in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, in Osogbo, on Monday. Oyetola said he received news of the demise of Mrs Adebimpe with rude shock and sadness, saying that his thoughts and prayers are with Hon Salaam and his entire family at this moment of grief. He urged them to take solace in the quality of life the departed lived, adding that “death is a price we will all pay. The governor prayed Almighty Allah to overlook the shortcomings of the deceased and grant her a place in Aljanah Firdaus while also praying for divine comfort for the bereaved family.

FG EXTENDS NIN LINKAGE TO SIMS

The Federal Government (FG) has extended the deadline for the ongoing National Identification Number (NIN) and subscriber identity module (SIM) linkage registration by four weeks. According to the FG, the new deadline for the registration is May 6, 2021. The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, made this known in a statement on Friday The minister said the extension was endorsed by President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday. The statement read in part, “The meeting took place on Thursday, April 1, 2021, and approval was given to extend the period of the NIN-SIM linkage to the 6th of May, 2021. “The request for the extension was presented to President Muhammadu Buhari and he endorsed it.”

$1.5BN REFINERY REVAMP BILL CAN BUILD 12 HOSPITALS SAYS PETERSIDE

The founder of Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc, Atedo Peterside, has sustained opposition to the Federal Government’s move to renovate the Port Harcourt refinery for $1.5bn, noting that the money could instead build 12 world class hospitals at $125m dollars each. In a Twitter post on Thursday, he advised the government to instead sell the refinery to private sector investors that could rehabilitate it with their own funds, citing successful core investor sales like Eleme Petrochemicals sold to Indorama and Nafcon sold to Notore. “The $1.5bn earmarked for PH refinery rehabilitation by NNPC could build 12 world class hospitals costing $125m each – two in each geopolitical zone. We could then allow private sector core investors to purchase the refinery and rehabilitate it with their own funds,” he tweeted. Peterside criticised the government for putting the refinery revamp project ahead of the country’s poor healthcare, especially after COVID-19 had exposed the weakness in the sector. I...

  Ogun State Amotekun Corps was inaugurated Thursday by Governor Dapo Abiodun, who also decorated the Professor as the Super Marshall of the security outfit in the state. Ogun, the god of iron, will strike any operative who abuses his uniform while discharging his duties. Soyinka said, “Amotekun, we are watching you. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that the National Identification Number (NIN) is not mandatory for voter registration. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the clarification to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, NAN reports. Yakubu said that NIN was only a means of identification for registration as listed in the Electoral Act. “I want to make this important clarification. NIN is not going to be made mandatory for voter registration. “This is for a simple reason that we are operating on basis of the law establishing INEC.“Section 10 of the Electoral Act lists identifications to be presented by prospective registrants for the purpose of voter registration to includes birth certificate, national passport, national identity card. “We cannot single NIN out and make it mandatory.
