TERTIARY INSTITUTES REMAIN CLOSED

Tertiary Institutes across Nigeria are to remain closed as federal government urge graduating students preparing for final exams to go back to school. The Federal Government has approved what is called “safe reopening” of schools nationwide in the next phase of the gradual easing of lockdown ordered to curtail further spread of COVID-19. However, only graduating students will resume. It has been gathered that the government equally lifted ban on interstate movement. This would be  effective from July 1, 2020, noting that only fifty percent of the passengers of the buses are allowed during travels. The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, disclosed these at the ongoing daily briefing of the task force in Abuja on Monday. OYO GOVERNMENT CLEARS THE AIR ON DELAYING AJIMOBI'S BURIAL

The immediate past Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Acting National Chairman, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, died on Thursday, June 25, 2020, of COVID-19 complications.  He ought to have been buried the next day, that is, on Friday, June 26, 2020, but the burial is yet to take place. The family of the late Governor accused the Oyo State Government of the delay.  According to a source close to the family, he said the Oyo State Government had been contacted as touching the burial arrangement, needing the government approval, but they were resisted. He said the government official contacted told them that they could not take any action as requested by the family except the Governor, Seyi Makinde, approves it. COURT GRANTS BAIL TO OFFICER DEROK CHAUVIN

A Minneapolis judge set a $1 million bail for police officer Derek Chauvin Monday as he made his first court appearance charged with the murder of George Floyd, the 46-year-old African-American man whose death sparked nationwide protests. Chauvin, who was filmed on May 25 pressing his knee on handcuffed Floyd’s neck until he expired, appeared by video from Minnesota state prison to face charges of one count of second degree murder, one count of third degree murder, and one count of manslaughter. In a procedural hearing that did not require Chauvin, 44, to submit a plea, the judge in the Hennepin County District Court set his bail at $1 million with conditions, and $1.25 million without conditions. Meeting the conditions would require him to surrender his firearms, not work in law enforcement or security in any capacity, and have no contact with the family of Floyd.

Popular musician Adekunle Gold has shared details of how he welcomed his first child with his singer-wife, Simi. The couple announced the birth of their baby girl, Adejare, on Sunday. Adekunle Gold said he cried when the new born came out. He wrote: “It’s been a lot right? I know. OAU LOSES STUDENT

By Olaoye Olumide The Obafemi Awolowo University has lost a female undergraduate student, Aisha Akande who was born on August 16, 1999 (20years). Aisha Akande was announced dead on her class WhatsApp group on June 4, 2020. Aisha who until her death was a student of Demography and Statistics (200Lv) was said to have been a diligent and hardworking student by her peers. Although the cause of her death is unknown her friends confirmed that she suffered a brief illness before her sudden death. Tributes poured in for her on the Class WhatsApp Group as well as WhatsApp Status of her course mates.
