OYO GOVERNMENT CLEARS THE AIR ON DELAYING AJIMOBI'S BURIAL
The immediate past Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Acting National Chairman, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, died on Thursday, June 25, 2020, of COVID-19 complications.
He ought to have been buried the next day, that is, on Friday, June 26, 2020, but the burial is yet to take place.
The family of the late Governor accused the Oyo State Government of the delay.
According to a source close to the family, he said the Oyo State Government had been contacted as touching the burial arrangement, needing the government approval, but they were resisted. He said the government official contacted told them that they could not take any action as requested by the family except the Governor, Seyi Makinde, approves it.
Oyo State Government, while reacting to the alleged accusation, stated that the land the family requested to bury the former Governor is under the lawsuit.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Makinde, he said “Incidentally, it was the same former Governor Ajimobi who instituted the legal action. Governor Makinde had no choice but to state the facts as they are to the emissaries and turn down the request.”
Also, it clarified that it is forbidden to bury dead bodies in Government Reservation Areas (GRA) base on the rules guiding land use. He said yet, the Governor approved that the family should bury Ajimobi in Oluyole Estate, but the family insists on burying him in Agodi GRA.
