THE SAMBA BOYS EDGES THE RED DEVIL: BRAZIL AND BELGIUM COMBINED XI| By Olamide Samson OLALEKAN

Brazilians edges The Red Devils: Brazil and Belgium Combined XI
Brazil and Belgium meet for the first time at the quarter final stage of the world cup. The only previous occasion these sides met in a world cup was in the round of 16 in 2002, with Brazil winning 2 v 0 en route to winning the entire competition. Who makes my combined XI of the best 11 players at Kazana Arena on Friday night?

Goalkeeper: ALISSON BECKER (BRA)| The two sides have wonderful shot stoppers, but Becker edges Courtois with the number of clean sheets kept. So, I’ll have Alisson Becker in goal.

Right Back: FAGNER (BRA)| The right full back takes the right side of the back four. He has more intercepts and tackles won, more than Belgium’s Thomas Meunier

Centre Back: THIAGO SILVA (BRA)| The 33 years old experienced and versatile defender takes the nod ahead of Vincent Kompany, who does not have as much intercepts as Silva

Centre Back: JAN VERTONGHEN (BEL)| The Tottenham defender is the only Belgian in my back four, pairing with Silva at the centre back. He has more intercepts than Miranda and a goal to his name.

Defensive Midfield: CASEMIRO (BRA)| Casemiro, is arguably the best defensive midfielder in the world at the moment. He has proven his worth with Real Madrid and currently doing so well at the world cup. He has more intercepts, tackles won and clearances than Axel Witsel.

Left Midfield: KEVIN DE BRUYNE (BEL)| De Bruyne is selected ahead of Paulinho. The Manchester City midfielder has more assists, successful dribbles, number of key passes than the Barcelona man in the ongoing competition.
Right Midfield: PHILIPE COUTINHO (BRA)| Coutinho plays from inside right of my midfield. He has been a very fantastic and important player to the Brazilian side in this competition having two goals and one assist to his name. He edges Dries Mertens in that position.

Outside Right: NEYMAR (BRA)| The Brazilian Talisman who is arguably a contender for the player of the tournament is selected ahead of Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco. Neymar, has more goals, assists and more dribbles than Carrasco. He plays from outside right of the attack.

Outside Left: EDEN HAZARD (BEL)| Eden Hazard is another player who is a contender for the player of the tournament. He’s selected for the outside left position, ahead of his Chelsea team mate, Willian. He also has more goals and assists than the Brazilian.

Centre Forward: ROMELU LUKAKU (BEL)| The Manchester United forward is selected to play in the centre forward role ahead of city rivals forward, Gabriel Jesus. Lukaku has more number of goals than Gabriel Jesus in the ongoing competition

And here is how they line up…

                                    CASEMIRO
