WHAT’S NEXT FOR GREAT IFE STUDENTS?
WHAT’S NEXT FOR GREAT IFE STUDENTS?
It is no longer a news that the
great Ife students were not totally affected by the national ASUU strike due to
division of the school system which is the CONUA (Congress University Academics)
and ASUU (Academic Staff Union Of Universities part)
A good number of students
especially those that falls under faculty of science have been receiving
lectures and has even gone as far completing their test for the semester while
some students are yet to receive any class for the semester at all.
With all this chaos going on with
the academic part of the school, the struggle and the sports part of the school
seems not to be lying idle also, according to some of the claims of the
students. This claim started to trend on discovering the school performance at
the of recent concluded sport activities at the NUGA (Nigerian University Game
Association) level. While the celebration to the successful wins of the sport
aspect was going on protesters who were in struggle with accepting the newly
elected Vice-Chancellor professor Bamire Adebayo Simeon but want Professor R A
Adedoyin occupying the post as an Ife Indigene also took over the campus
automatically stopping all activities going on within the campus, as there was
blocking of roads, beatings and attempted beatings to those making attempts to
cover the scenario been made. Traditionalist were not left out in the exercise
as different part of them keeps displaying their act for two consecutive days.
Students, student union, victims,
governors, the media houses, some reputable personnel, and even the TRWASO (Traditional
Religion Worshippers Association, State Of Osun) express their dissatisfaction
to the protest via series of press release and social media. Stating their
claims where necessary that they don’t support the actions of protesters and
also their surprise at the school silence during all this act when a solid
action should have been taken.
Finally getting subsided, the
protesters seem to fade off into the thin air the same way they popped out of
the blue. Then the NASU and SSANU bring
in their own news announcing their two weeks warning strike due to the refusal
of government to meet up with their demanded news. Although the students of
great Ife start to react to this news almost immediately by vacating their hall
of residence within the 48 hours the news was circulated. No Students was ready
to face the school with no NASU and SSANU function as this will means no water
supply, no electricity of which seems to be the greatest priority of survival
as a student generally.
But not for too long before commotion
start to uproar among the students of Great Ife wondering what is the next
thing to happen? When the school finally released a circular declaring a two
weeks mid-semester break. This came in as shock for some part of great Ife
students who claim their semester has not even started at all, while some claim
that the break is actually very wrong to be termed a mid-semester break at the
tenth week of the semester.
Expressing their fear through
different post on the social media handles, the great Ife students warn
themselves to prepare for two months break instead as this was the same way it
started during the school lock down last year while in the middle of the
semester exams.
Now the question on every great
Ife students lips still remain WHAT NEXT AFTER THE SO CALLED MID-SEMESTER
BREAK?
