NBC CONFIRMS TWITTER ACCOUNT HACK

The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has confirmed that its Twitter account has been hacked, stating that they are working on the retrieval. This happened barely 48 hours after viral audio released by an ‘anonymous’ supported the #EndSARS protest, thereby giving the government 72 hours or risked hacking. The NBC official Twitter account tweeted randomly in support of the protest and the suspicion of an account was confirmed when it tweeted “Good morning, great Nigerians. TGIF and it’s also a good day to #ENDSARS and #EndSWAT Which government website(s) would you want us to play with? Drop your suggestions under this tweet. #TwitterDown #NBChacked” It further tweeted that “we anonymous are out to expose government’s secret and dirty files.” Twitter users have been dropping suggestions in response to the request on the NBC Twitter handle. NASS ACTING CLERK SANI-OMOLORI GETS REPLACED

The National Assembly Service Commission has appointed new clerks for the National Assembly. Mohammed Sani-Omolori after 35 years of service has been replaced by  Ojo Amos Olatunde as Acting Clerk to the National Assembly. Others appointments are Bala Yabani Mohammed as Acting Deputy Clerk, National Assembly; Dauda Ibrahim El-Ladan Acting Clerk, Senate; Patrick Giwa to remain Clerk, House of Representatives pending his retirement in November, 2020; Yusuf Asir Danbatta, Acting Secretary to the NASC. Chairman of the NASC, Ahmed Amshi, in a statement issued on Friday, said the appointments take immediate effect.

DSS ARRESTS EFCC ACTING CHAIRMAN

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, has been arrested by the Department of State Services. He was arrested over allegations that he owns four properties and that he was allegedly transferring funds abroad through a third party. He was arrested at the Wuse II office of the DSS on Monday afternoon and is now undergoing interrogation at the DSS Headquarters In Aso Drive. The DSS in a 2016 report revealed that Magu was living in a N40m mansion. “In December 2010, the Police Service Commission (PSC) found Magu guilty of action prejudicial to state security – withholding of EFCC files, sabotage, unauthorised removal of EFCC files and acts unbecoming of a police officer, and awarded him severe reprimand as punishment.  “Magu is currently occupying a residence rented for N40m at N20m per annum. TERTIARY INSTITUTES REMAIN CLOSED

Tertiary Institutes across Nigeria are to remain closed as federal government urge graduating students preparing for final exams to go back to school. The Federal Government has approved what is called “safe reopening” of schools nationwide in the next phase of the gradual easing of lockdown ordered to curtail further spread of COVID-19. However, only graduating students will resume. It has been gathered that the government equally lifted ban on interstate movement. This would be  effective from July 1, 2020, noting that only fifty percent of the passengers of the buses are allowed during travels. The immediate past Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Acting National Chairman, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, died on Thursday, June 25, 2020, of COVID-19 complications.  He ought to have been buried the next day, that is, on Friday, June 26, 2020, but the burial is yet to take place. COURT GRANTS BAIL TO OFFICER DEROK CHAUVIN

A Minneapolis judge set a $1 million bail for police officer Derek Chauvin Monday as he made his first court appearance charged with the murder of George Floyd, the 46-year-old African-American man whose death sparked nationwide protests. Chauvin, who was filmed on May 25 pressing his knee on handcuffed Floyd’s neck until he expired, appeared by video from Minnesota state prison to face charges of one count of second degree murder, one count of third degree murder, and one count of manslaughter. In a procedural hearing that did not require Chauvin, 44, to submit a plea, the judge in the Hennepin County District Court set his bail at $1 million with conditions, and $1.25 million without conditions. Meeting the conditions would require him to surrender his firearms, not work in law enforcement or security in any capacity, and have no contact with the family of Floyd.

Aisha Akande was announced dead on her class WhatsApp group on June 4, 2020. Aisha who until her death was a student of Demography and Statistics (200Lv) was said to have been a diligent and hardworking student by her peers. Although the cause of her death is unknown her friends confirmed that she suffered a brief illness before her sudden death. Tributes poured in for her on the Class WhatsApp Group as well as WhatsApp Status of her course mates.

OAU FACULTY OF LAW AND OTHERS FACULITIES GETS FULL ACCREDITATION

According to the national universities commission (NUC) report, Faculty of Law,Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Science of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife have  been granted accreditation. These Faculties have been unable to grant admission to aspirants since 2018 because of the lack of accreditation.  The university has worked tiredlessly and it has finally paid off as the National Universities Commission (NUC), has given full accreditation to all the academic programmes being run by these faculties in OAU. However, programmes being run by other Faculties were also accredited by the NUC while all programmes at the Postgraduate level were also fully accredited. Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 made the announcement on Monday, adding that the increased cases of coronavirus across the country was due to the fact that testing capacity has been increased in the country. "The chief of staff to the Nigerian president Abba Kyari is dead," presidential spokesmen Femi Adesina said on Saturday morning. “Funeral arrangements to be announced soon,” Adesina said.   Garba Shehu, the special assistant on media and publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, said Kyari died on Friday.  Abba Kyari was the top aide to President Buhari and one of the most powerful men in the country. PRESIDENT BUHARI EXTENDS LOCKDOWN BY TWO WEEKS

President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the ongoing lockdown over the COVID-19 by two weeks. In a presidential broadcast on Monday evening, Buhari said: “It has become necessary to extend the current restriction of movement in Lagos and Ogun States as well as the FCT for another 14 days effective from 11:59 pm on Monday, 13th of April, 2020. I am therefore once again asking you all to work with Government in this fight.” He added: “This is a difficult decision to take, but I am convinced that this is the right decision. COURT SENTENCES FUNKE AKINDELE AND HUSBAND TO 14 DAYS COMMUNITY SERVICE

By Akinyinka Omowunmi Actress Funke Akindele and her husband Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz plead guilty in the magistrate court today in ogba Lagos.   They pleaded to the one count charge of hosting a gathering of 20 persons and over, contrary to the social distancing directives of the Lagos  State Government filled againstst them by the Attorney General of Lagos State, Moyosore Onigbanjo ( SAN). Delivery judgement after the couple pleaded guilty, Magistrate Y.O Aje Afunwa ordered the defendants to pay N100, 000 naira each as fine. The Magistrate also held that the couple must serve 14 days community service and thereafter to observe period of isolation. The couple who were represented by their lawyer, Abayomi Alagbada however pleaded for leniency after pleading guilty to the charge.

NCDC, DETTOL DEBUNK FUNKE AKINDELE AS AMBASSADOR

Funke Akindele appeared in an advert on NCDC website where she was educating Nigerians on preventive measures against coronavirus. However, her recent action where she organized a house party and violated the lockdown order by the state and federal government raised concerns about her tainting the image of the agency. The police has begun a manhunt  for Akindele's husband, Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz and singer Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley, said to have been at the party. The police have arrested Nollywood actress and producer, Funke Akindele, in Lagos State. The Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos, Bala Elkana, confirmed this in a statement on Sunday. He explained that the actress was arrested for violating the restriction orders in the state as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The state government had restricted social gatherings in the state to not more than 20 people, as well as urged residents to maintain social distancing. According to the government, the restriction order affects churches, mosques, weddings, and other forms of social function that can attract a large crowd of people. Waka music exponent, Queen Salawa Abeni, has been forced to release her nude pictures on the social media to escape being blackmailed by an unknown man who identifies himself as Jason and lives in osun state. COVID-19: ASUU DONATES INTERVENTION MATERIALS

The wife of  Lagos State Governor, Dr( Mrs) Joke Sanwo-olu has taken to alert the general public contrary to misinformation  that curfew has not been announced in Lagos  State. She said "The state Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-olu dropped the idea of imposing a curfew in the state meant to allow the fumigation exercise of public space." PRESIDENT BUHARI'S MINISTERS DONATE 50% SALARIES

The 43 Ministers appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari have donated 50 percent of their March 2020 salaries to support the Federal Government’s fight against coronavirus.  This was  in a statement on Saturday, by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed.He disclosed that the Minister of State for Transportation, Gbemisola Saraki, coordinated the donation. He quoted her as saying the fund was raised to support the efforts to tackle the disease. ”This global virus outbreak will require nations, continents and smaller communities to pull together to contribute their resources and support one another”, Saraki said. She added that the guesture will facilitate an early resolution of COVID-19. The cases of a global pandemic have risen to 81 in Nigeria. Globally, the disease has killed about 300,000 people and affected 200 countries.

CORONA VIRUS: COVERAGE OF THE STATE HOUSE BY MEDIA HOUSES SCALES DOWN

The  presidency has scaled down the coverage of the state house by media houses to only 13 in order to stop Corona virus spread to the seat of power. The 13 media houses allowed to have access to the Villa henceforth are Deutsche Welle, NTA, Channels TV, TVC, FRCN, VON, NAN, The Sun, ThisDay, Leadership, Daily Trust, The Guardian and Vanguard. The decision was in compliance with the social distancing rule and accommodation of not more than 50 persons at any gathering. A statement by the Director of Information, State House, Mr Attah Esa, said  "the Presidency had scaled down the number of staff in other departments as well, noting that “over 100” correspondents gathering for work daily was not in line with the social distancing rule and overcrowding." American lawmaker, Senator Randal Howard Paul is the first senator to test positive for Corona virus. Paul, who is a physician and has Kentucky-issued medical license,was also one of the eight senators who voted against paid sick leave in a stimulus bill that passed with an overwhelming 90-8 vote last week. The lawmaker had earlier downplayed the disease and was the only Senator to vote against an $8.3 billion emergency Coronavirus package last month. “He is feeling fine and is in quarantine,” an announcement on his Twitter said. “He is asymptomatic and was tested out of an abundance of caution due to his extensive travel and events. “He expects to be back in the Senate after his quarantine period ends and will continue to work for the people of Kentucky at this difficult time.” “I think that the paid sick leave is an incentive for businesses to actually let go employees and will make unemployment worse,” Paul had told Newsweek.

Ladi Adebutu, to solicit his help in the payment of fees of some members of the association A list of thirty-four students were sent to the NAOSS WhatsApp page in February and the students whose names had appeared were asked to provide their e-portal information.
