ASSU OAU: No amount of threats or directives by the administration will derail our struggle

The Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) OAU branch declared a strike on the 31st of January 2022, as a result of failure of the present administration led by the vice chancellor Prof. Eyitpope Ogunbodede in payment of the EAA to deserving members even after several meetings that has been held with ASUU executives.

The union has claimed an attempt to be blackmailed by the administration while they resolve their decision to go on strike while the administration claimed  the union was not ready to subject their computation for verification as well as other propaganda.

The union however revealed that the first place they will hear such claims is via the social media and afterward have since submitted all documents necessary for the verification process but the VC has done nothing on it.

“It was shocking that the first place we encountered the word 'verification' was on social media as reported by a name never known to law. We have since submitted all required documents for the so called verification yet the VC refused to disburse our EAA.” Claimed ASUU members.

The union assures their members that they will not succumb to any form of blackmail and they should put their minds at rest as the action embarked on continues till their goal is achieved.

The branch strike coordinating committee(BSCC) acknowledged the members and their families for their perseverance and also commended them in their commitment to the struggle to ensure that their due payments are made.

The BSCC further stated that all rights of members involving the payments of the EAA shall be enforced. It was made known that no member of the union shall attend any meeting- be it virtual or physical- whatever the reason may be while the strike is ongoing.

"The union encouraged its members to create more public awareness to explain more clearly the reasons behind the ongoing strike, stating that no amount of threats or directive by the administration will put a dent on their struggle."Concluded from the released bulletin
