Everly Brothers star Don Everly, known for hits such as Bye Bye Love, dies aged 84

Don Everly, the last surviving member of the rock ‘n’ roll duo The Everly Brothers, has died at his home in Nashville at the age of 84.
The rock ‘n’ roll star is known for hits including “Bye Bye Love” and “Wake Up Little Susie”.
A spokesman for his family confirmed he had died but did not say what his cause of death was.
The spokesman told the Los Angeles Times: “Don lived by what he felt in his heart. Don expressed his appreciation for the ability to live his dreams … with his soulmate and wife, Adela, and sharing the music that made him an Everly Brother.”
His brother Phil, who he starred alongside, passed away seven years ago, aged 74, due to lung disease.
Don spoke about his family’s band in an interview with Rolling Stone in 1986.
He said: “Country’s not the right word for what he played. It was more uptown, more honky-tonk. I’ll tell you the right word for it: blues. White blues.”
Don, born Isaac Donald Everly in Kentucky in 1937, began his singing career with Phil when they were teenagers in Nashville country scene after moving to Tennessee.
The pair were synonymous for their close harmonies and influenced bands such as The Beatles.
They shot to fame after releasing “Bye Bye Love” in 1957, which made No1 spot on the country charts and earned the No2 spot on the pop charts.
The pair were elected to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in its launch year in 1986 and were handed given a lifetime achievement award at the Grammys in 1997.
